7:34 am - Phils win!

There are several million really happy Philadelphians this morning.

We can argue who's the happiest, but I know who's the most relieved:

Donovan McNabb.

8:01 pm - First place!

Last year, it took us until the last day of the season to reach first place. This year, we did it by the end of May.

Let's stay there until the end!

6:39 pm - Playoff beard

I haven't shaved since Wednesday, and at work I was asked why I looked so scruffy today. Instead of my usual excuse of laziness, I said I was growing a playoff beard in support of the Flyers.

I hope I'm still growing it in June.

5:24 pm - Post Season

Well the baseball post season starts tomorrow. It is amazing who everybody is picking in the series. Phillies over the Rockies (I hope that is true). Cubs over the Diamondback (I do not think so). Indians over the Yankees (again I hope not). Red Sox over Angels (I can believe that one).
What are your takes

1:08 pm - Playoff roster

The Phillies have until 10 a.m. tomorrow to announce their NLDS playoff roster.

Here is one man's hope for what that playoff roster looks like:

Shaun's 2007 Phillies Postseason Roster
Infielders (6): Dobbs, Howard, Iguchi, Nunez, Rollins, Utley.
Outfielders (5): Bourn, Burrell, Rowand, Victorino, Werth
Catchers (3): Barajas, Coste, Ruiz
Pitchers (11): Condrey, Durbin, Geary, Gordon, Hamels, Kendrick, Lohse, Mesa, Moyer, Myers, Romero

(See explanation here.)

Any suggestions?  Who do you want to see/not see on the Fightin's playoff roster?

12:00 am - C'mon Philly!

I'm only slightly annoyed that we lost to the Giants this evening. I'm incredibly pissed that we lost so horribly. C'MON EAGLES!!!!!!! What the hell?! Can you like meet up with the rest of us and give some more? Take yourself a lesson from the Phillies and actually do something that sports teams do....like win.

Sorry for the rant; I was on such a high with the win today that this just popped the balloon. And McNabb was wobbling his way across the back-half of the stadium? Alright, collective eyerolls are entirely and properly allowed here. Phans, what are we going to do about this team?

10:18 am - The End of an Era

Peter Vescey is reporting today that Allen Iverson has demanded to be traded from the Philadelphia 76ers and that Billy King is currently working the phones to accomodate this demand.

Also of interest is the fact that are no "untouchables" on the Sixers roster since King is apparently willing to discuss moving Andre Iguodala and Sam Dalembert along with Webber, if needbe.

1:20 am - Andre Waters

I'm sure by now everyone has heard about Andre Waters' death

I can't say I have an all-time "favorite Eagle," but one of my first favorite football players was Andre Waters. I was born in 1982 and growing up I fell in love with the Eagles defensive players such as Reggie White, Clyde Simmons, Jerome Brown, Wes Hopkins, Seth Joyner, Eric Allen and Andre Waters. Sadly, three of these players have now passed away.

I remember the end of the Buddy Ryan era, and it wasn't just the end of an era in Philadelphia--it was the end of the era in the NFL. In the time just before free-agency, players played as if their livelihood was on the line--because it was. If any player exemplified this give-it-all attitude, it was Andre Waters. He earned the nickname "Dirty Waters" but that is because he did whatever it took to help the Eagles win. When I was younger I loved watching him on the football field. He never took a play off and was involved in every play. He never had the talent of a Brian Dawkins, but, as heretical as it sounds, he had even more heart. If someone from another planet asked me to describe Eagles football, I would say two word: "Andre Waters." If you remember those times, you know you could not help but fall in love with his style of play.

I was young when Jerome Brown died; it hit me, but I didn't understand the ramifications. When Reggie died, I was devastated but I knew the legacy he had left. Waters' death is the most devastating to me. I have no idea what led him to apparently take his own life, but heart goes out to his family and to anyone who was touched by his life on and off the football field. The Eagles have lost an outstanding alumnus and the city of Philadelphia has lost an icon.
